FFXIV SFX Overhaul – Series I: Footsteps 2.0

This mod is the first entry in my FFXIV SFX Overhaul, a long-term project focused on reworking the game’s sound effects to feel more natural and immersive.

Series I: Footsteps, replaces the default footstep sounds with a more realistic mix in the hopes to better match FFXIV’s environments. The vanilla footstep SFX can be a bit sharp on the ears, as well as a bit repetitive, especially during exploration. This overhaul is meant to soften the ear fatigue, while giving the sounds in the a bit more texture, and variation. That way your character's movement feels like a part of the world instead of just a layer on top of it.

With 2.0 I've reworked every footstep sound, more than tripling the sound source for nearly every material in the game, jumping from 8 sounds per material to 30. Say good-bye to the repetitive jumping and running sounds! Steps now have way more variety and a much more natural sound. Going forward this mod will be getting frequent updates, where I'll be adding new footstep sounds for certain mobs, mounts and other creatures from the game.

DISCLAIMER: I don't intend to do every footstep in the game. Just the ones that feel the most out of place.
Also, apologies for taking so long to update this. The start of the year brought with it a lot of setbacks, most notably a hard drive failure, which saw me having to start this project over almost completely from scratch. Going forward, things shouldn't take as long, so long as life cooperates that is.

This covers the wet and dry sounds for both male and female characters. All clothing sounds, tall grass sounds, Chocobo footsteps, Chocobo flight, and more! Future updates to my FFXIV SFX Overhaul will include new series, like Gathering and Crafting. Each series will be modular, so you can use only what you want without committing to everything.

Installation Directions, Step by Step

Install FFXIV Quick Launcher/Dalamud:
Download and install the FFXIV Quick Launcher from goatcorp.github.io/
Dalamud is integrated into the FFXIV Quick Launcher. After launching the game through the Quick Launcher, Dalamud will be available.

Add Penumbra Plugin:
Type /xlplugins in chat to open the plugin installer
Click Settings
Under Custom Plugin Repositories, add:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/xivdev/Penumbra/master/repo.json
Click Save and Close
Search for Penumbra and install it

Install the SFX Mod:
Type /penumbra in chat
Go to the Mods tab
Click Import Mod(s) and select the .pmp file
Enable the mod by toggling it on
