quake 3 arena was released december 2, 1999 and split away from quake and quake 2 in that it had no real story mode and focused much more on multiplayer. the single player mode included a pve against 7 tiers of enemies, 8 if you count tutorial crash. it released to a largely positive reaction, understandably. team arena is an expansion that focused on the team games, like capture the flag, and added new powerups for maximum entertainment.
