Whether you are the nth Garlean Princess and lost/secret heir to the Imperial throne, the Legatus of the XVth> Homebrew Legion of elite supersoldiers, or simply someone who enjoys the wonders of Magitek, you can be sure to ride in style and minimal comfort with your very own Garlean Hypersonic Assault Craft! The modpack includes custom mount music playing The Measure of Our Reach, as well as three options for the minion's state; flying, landed, and wrecked.
Q&A
Q: How did you make this?
A: It was just a matter of exporting the different models that make up the Hypersonic Assault Craft from the game using XIV Explorer, then combining and heavily editing these models in Blender to make them look halfway decent for both the minions and the mount, and editing the texture mapping of the materials to make them fit the game's four material limit. Finally, I had to adjust the texture of the lights to make them glow, and combine elements of both the Hypersonic Assault Craft model found in Castrum Meridianum as well as the Hypersonic Assault Craft model found in Zadnor, to make the airship look halfway decent. Finally, I had to test the different models to make sure they didn't look botched. The total process took me around 6-7 hours combined.
Q: How big exactly is the Hypersonic Assault Craft in lore?
A: We're given a few indicators over the course of the game. We first see the airship during the quest The City-State Envoy, which makes it seem 1:1 in scale. However later on it is heavily implied to be scaled down, such as the quests Hope on the Waves, which shows the Hypersonic Assault Craft airdropping Magitek Rearguards, and Emissary of the Dawn, which shows the bridge of the airship to be about the same size as the Praetorium dungeon's first boss arena. Finally, in the dungeon The Ghimlyt Dark, we see Hypersonic Assault Crafts deploying Garlean paratroopers en masse. Because of this, we can reasonably conclude that the Hypersonic Assault Craft's model is much bigger than presented, and able to transport entire regiments of soldiers and/or multiple units of Magitek Warmachina.
Q: Why do I have to zoom in with my camera to see where I'm flying the mount? My camera clips into it if I zoom too far out. : (
A: Have you seen how big it is? I'm surprised I was able to make it possible to see out of the mount at all. And I'd rather not scale it down when it works well enough as is, thankyouverymuch.
Q: Why doesn't the mount have any animations?
A: It lacks animation when seen flying in-game, too.
Q: Why did you choose to use the Zephyrous Zabuton as the minion?
A: Because the mount comes with custom music that will only play if the mod is enabled under the Default collection in Penumbra, the mod will affect every minion in the world. The Zephyrous Zabuton was therefore a better choice than the Plush Cushion or others, due to how rarely it is placed down by players. If you still wish to G-Pose without the minion, you can use a plogon like Brio to load the Zephyrous Zabuton's appearance onto a different one, like the Plush Cushion.
Q: Why does the wrecked model have different wings than the landed and flying ones?
A: The crashed model was released during Post-Stormblood, whereas the Hypersonic Assault Craft was first seen in A Realm Reborn. It seems the devs took the liberty of updating the model some.
Q: Why not add the updated wings to the old model? You did it with the lights.
A: I would have, but the damn four-material limit prevented me.
Q: Will you update this when 7.0 drops?
A: As with my ever-expanding list of works, if the graphics for it improve, then yes.
Known Issues:
• The custom mount music will not play unless the mod is installed under both the Default collection and Your Character collection in Penumbra.
• Because Mare does not share .scd files, passengers cannot hear the music unless they also have the mod installed.
